Jamie Clyde is a Salt Lake City-based interior designer and artist whose practice is guided by five interconnected tenets: architecture, hierarchy, art, design psychology, and responsibility.

Clyde begins with architecture, letting the character and logic of an existing building lead the interior. From there, hierarchy establishes the viewpoint. Materiality, proportion, color, light, texture, density, and negative space are carefully weighted against one another, giving each element its presence and the interior a clear visual language.

Her background as a contemporary artist brings art into that hierarchy from the beginning. Clyde considers art load-bearing within the concept, informing color, composition, resonance, and the broader direction of a space.

Equally important is how the body responds to an interior. Drawing on principles of design psychology, Clyde considers how a space can foster ease, intimacy, connection, and discovery, shaping an experience that recognizes both the nervous system and the human impulse to explore.

Responsibility forms the final tenet of the practice. Clyde favors working with existing buildings, seeing their continued use as stewardship that honors the resources, history, and architecture already in place. Within them, she selects vintage, custom, and artisan-made furnishings and objects built to last.

Through these tenets, Clyde works across hospitality and residential design, approaching each project as an opportunity to create spaces that are deeply connected to their architecture, responsive to the people who inhabit them, and built with a longer view of how design can endure.

Jamie received her BFA from the University of Utah and studied Interior Design at Parsons in New York City.
